volunteer

If you are thinking of volunteering
to help out at this year’s Not Since Moses,
think no more.
Just sign up.

Our volunteers have raved about doing it, being out in such a beautiful place, being part of hundreds and hundreds of runners having a peak experience. And the runners in turn have raved about our volunteers, their spirit and helpfulness. We have jobs of all types so you can do what you are most comfortable doing. Generally the jobs break into the following categories (and when you sign up online you can indicate which job you would like):

Volunteer Positions

Overall Volunteer Captain
The person who runs the whole volunteer organization. Experience at this is a good idea.

Data management
Monitor data entry during registration, sort data as needed, oversee finish time entries and assemble a finish time report for our website.

At the start
This will include signing in runners, working coffee and shirt and hat tables, roaming to answer questions and directing cars as they park.

Medical
This will be for Drs, EMTs, nurses and others able to help if an injury occurs. Some will be at the start/finish area and some along the course.

Along the course
A captain will oversee placement of volunteers who will be stretched out along the course, to mark it and to cheer on the runners. That captain will oversee the course during the run and the return of the volunteers. Water will be distributed from a table halfway through the 5k route (so 10 k runners pass it twice, going out and coming back).

Finish line
Will greet the runners as they finish.

The party
A captain will arrange equipment and supplies before the day of the run and oversee post-run activities which will include food and drink. Volunteers will include servers and hot dog cooks, musicians, magicians, jugglers, game organizers, kite contestants and so forth. We will have a poetry gathering open to all entrants (the poem must have been written during or after the run, not before) so we need volunteer judges (a phD in literature disqualifies you).

Public relations
This event attracts a lot of attention and although up to now we have not sought any coverage, this year we can handle lots more runners so some pre-run and of course post-run media coverage would be nice for us all.

Survey
Last year one of the real joys was reading the comments of the participants in a very informal survey I sent out. And there were helpful suggestions as well. We need to go to a more organized survey such as Survey Monkey so volunteers for this job would be appreciated.

So, just do it, sign up. If you don’t have a strong preference or special skill, leave your assignment to us. We will contact you to confirm your job and give you details about when and where to arrive. And you get free food and a free shirt which you can pick up the day before the run or that day. Thanks very much. Click here.
